It was not at all evident to me at that time that she was advocating a separate sanctioned section for only the kids. I thought she simply wanted to have the kids just play a game of bridge in proximity to a real tournament environment so they could be exposed to and become familiar with it. Until l received her email immediately below, I had thought that this was also the case in her advocacy of having the kids play at the May sectional. It was from this perspective that I suggested including this subject on the March 7 board meeting agenda.

In McKenzie's email further below, he references communication with the Unit board indicating our board would welcome the kids into a limited event but not add a sanctioned kids-only event. I apologize that while operating from my phone here I'm not able to open and read minutes of the Feb board meeting which might have made this clear to me.

If the board's discussion at the Feb board meeting led to the position referenced in McKenzie's email, I have no desire to revisit or change that position either at the March 7 board meeting or otherwise.

If Anne Farmer would still like for there to be a sanctioned kids-only section at a future (beyond May) Unit sectional, then I suggest that Ann Romeo as our liaison elicit a clear and complete formal proposal from her and bring it forward to the full Unit board so we can discuss and act on it with sufficient lead time to address sanctioning, financial, staffing, venue, publicity and other aspects. From a financial perspective perhaps she might expect the Unit to subsidize the kids' event by charging a reduced or no entry fee while absorbing sanctioning fees and additional director staffing costs. In my view we need to understand and address these issues in making a decision on including a kids-only sanctioned event at one of our sectionals.

Comments please.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi- The only time I can get transportation for kids to play in Bothell in on Saturday, May 28 in the afternoon. I don't think its fair for them to play against the adults. Why can't we just add a few tables in the novice section for the kids only?

I'm working at a tournament this week, so won't have time to step off for a phone call.

The schedule for the tournament has been set for quite some time - we can't add an event at the last minute. What I've heard from the Unit Board is that the Juniors have been invited to join the Novice section for any session they would like to join.

Hi- Ann Romeo referred me to you regarding the upcoming Bothell Sectional May 27-29, 2016. We have great news! We have arranged transportation for the kids in the School Bridge program to come play on Saturday, May 28. Please send us details as to location, times, etc. Afternoon will work better so we can provide a lunch for the kids before they play. So- we now have enough kids for a Junior Section with our kids and the bridge campers. I will be glad to help you. Do we need another, director for the Junior section? If I may suggest Bernard Mann- who has participated in the program or John K /Daniel Poore. They are familiar with the school program and have volunteered at the tournaments. Please call me ASAP at (206)441-7244 h or (206)854-0008 mobile.
