Hi Peggy,

I'm JC Chupack, the current unit president (as well as the publicity chair,
so I manage the website and email lists). Thank you for reaching out! I
think your idea for a game format focused on matching up older and younger
players is a great idea. It's certainly something you could take ownership
on and drive while on the unit board.

I haven't specifically looked to see if you're a newer player or just new
to Seattle, but either way, we'd welcome your contributions on the board.
In particular, you might be interested in helping out as a youth liaison
and also part of the unit games committee. But either way, it's great to
have new ideas.

The only formal responsibility you have as a board member (i.e., you can be
removed if you don't do this) is to regularly attend board meetings. Our
meetings are typically held on the first Monday evening of the month, via
Zoom conferencing; we meet monthly although we usually skip 1-2 months
depending on how things are going. (We also check in with the incoming
board at the start of their term to see if that night works for them or if
we need to move it.) Also, as a member, you're always welcome to sit in on
a board meeting, so if you'd like to listen in on one to see what happens
before you decide, just let me know, and I'll send you the details.

As a unit, our biggest challenge in the upcoming year will be keeping the
membership active and engaged without the benefit of being able to hold
in-person events. We want to make sure our local clubs can continue to
operate and help protect their interests. Even when/if a vaccine is found,
our community is more vulnerable than most, and we are not anticipating a
rapid return to in-person play. At the same time, bridge is the main
social outlet for a lot of our membership, and we want to keep that outlet
available to them as much as we can.

Otherwise, if there's any questions I can answer, please feel free to ask.
This is my fifth year on the unit board, and when I joined, I was not yet a
life master and only a couple of years into living in Seattle. I knew only
a handful of people in the local bridge community. But being on the unit
board is a great way to meet people and learn more about bridge!

Best regards,
JC
