Dear Club Managers and District/Unit Presidents,

The ACBL appreciates your patience and support. We know that many of you
are inundated with questions from members regarding concerns about possible
exposure to COVID-19. Incidents of exposure (and positive test results) by
bridge players and ACBL staff have been reported directly to the ACBL as
well as in local media.

As you field these questions, it is imperative that you are mindful of the
personal privacy of each and every ACBL member, particularly as it relates
to their personal health information.

Please know that we plan to share the same information in this update with
all members. However, we want to emphasize the fact that ACBL will not release
private health information of its members, including the names of players
who have tested positive for the virus. It is our expectation that you will
comply with this request.

We depend on you, which is why you have expanded access to member
information under the ACBL Privacy Policy. Unless the member has
self-identified to you and has authorized the dissemination of their
personal health information in writing (or otherwise publicly announced
it), please do not share any details regarding the health status of any
specifically identified ACBL member.

We understand the importance of communicating to members any exposure that
they may have experienced, so we have created an email template

players to the potential risk without specifically identifying a player. Do
not disseminate such alerts based on rumors.

Like you, we value the health and well-being of each ACBL member and want
them to be safe and armed with good information. However, sharing specific
names without prior authorization cannot be part of that information
sharing. Please be aware that this is a serious legal matter.

We appreciate those of you who have cancelled club games and tournaments
scheduled through May 11, 2020. We know that it was a difficult decision.
In support of clubs, we have added a daily online bridge game on Bridge
Base Online (BBO)

A portion of this game’s proceeds will be funneled back to clubs. The
“Support Your Club” daily online game currently has limited capacity, but
we plan to add more games to the schedule (depending on BBO capacity). In
partnership with BBO and The Common Game, we are also working to implement
similar online bridge-playing opportunities as soon as we are able. Please
be patient as we ramp up these efforts.

Keeping the channels of communication open with members is important during
this time, so thank you for informing local players through your websites
