Hi all,
Please see the thread below. Basically, Everett is cancelling their
sectional which means we don't have a location for the GNT B/Open
planned for next weekend. Tim's plan after consulting with ACBL/Matt K
is to just combine it with the GNTs happening in April in BC and run all
4 flights at the same time. My understanding is they are planning to
send out an email blast to that effect to all D19 bridge players.
As you can see from my response below, I don't think combining the two
events in BC is in the best interests of our membership.
I wanted to keep everyone apprised and also gather feedback from our
unit board. I know I'm personally curious if people agree/disagree.
Also, if people feel that the district board should work to find a
separate time/location, I think we and especially Tim should hear it
from you.
Thanks!
Eric

Hi all,
Thank you Tim for keeping us apprised as to the situation and
coordinating with ACBL HQ and other parties. It certainly seems like a
lot of extra work for a role that is already fairly involved.
However, I do think we should discuss and potentially vote as a board on
steps to go from here. The decision made is certainly easiest, but it
does not seem to be in the best interests of our membership.
Specifically, this decision seems detrimental to:
1) Those who were planning on playing both events. This essentially
cancels the Open GNT for those who want to play A, or the As for people
who want to play B. Last year, every single team in A also played in
some fashion in either Open or B. Removing the A teams from Open last
year would have meant the Open event would only have had two teams total.
2) Those who live in Washington, especially south of Everett. We just
had NAPs in BC, now the only GNT event will be in BC as well?
I think there are multiple options we should consider as a board before
making a decision about the best solution. They could be done online as
is done in D20. They could be put in another Seattle location. They
could be hosted at our clubs. EBC, for example, easily has the capacity
to host at least one GNT flight concurrently without needing to cancel
their local club game.
I understand that this is an unusual situation, and it doesn't surprise
me that the ACBL and Matt K are in favor of just combining the two
events. That is certainly the easiest solution from their POV. However,
I think we owe it to our membership to decide based on what is best and
what is in their interests rather than what Matt K and the ACBL wish to
do. I don't believe that combining these two events is in their best
interests and I have faith in our ability to come together to find a
better solution.
If there are ways in which I can assist in helping this event still
happen on two separate days, I am more than happy to help.

Please advise how many sets of boards U430 has that will be available for the GNTs. If not enough, we’ll need to try to source additional sets from club(s), TournTables, or other.
