[SBU Board] Fwd: Seattle Sectional at Sea - Sept 8-15, 2019

Colleagues in bridge governance,

The surprising and disappointing scheduling and sanctioning of the event below is -- to say the least — unhelpful, given the Seattle Unit’s sanctioned sectional and concurrent I/N regional on Sept 20-22, 2019.

I asked Matt Koltnow, D19 Tournament Coordinator, if he has knowledge of the process by which this “Seattle Sectional at Sea” was sanctioned.  He replied that these things used to come to him, but no more.  He has no say in them. 

Perhaps this is an issue that Seattle U446 might ask Julie to raise with ACBL HQ in the near term, and for the full D19 board and Julie to take up during our board meeting April 8 in Victoria.  It seems completely inappropriate to end-run the local unit and/or district when considering whether to sanction an event such as this sectional at sea.
