[SBU Board] SBU - insurance for trailer and contents

To save time at tonight’s meeting, I can report on the issue of insurance for the trailer and its contents, which John and I were asked to investigate.

We were unable to find anyone who would issue such a policy.  Further, the insurance people that we spoke to (or, in one case, that David Taylor spoke to) speculated that if anyone did write such a policy, the annual premium might be in the range of $500 to $1000, and the policy might have a substantial deductible as well.  This seems excessive, given the low risk of loss and the relatively modest cost of replacement.  Based on craigslist listings, we believe that we could replace the trailer for approximately $8,000; and David estimates that the contents (mostly tables and chairs) could be replaced for a similar amount.  

We are in a position to continue to self-insure against damage or destruction of the trailer and its contents, as we have been doing.  If necessary, we could liquidate a portion of the CD that we have on deposit to obtain the funds needed for replacement.
