I’m OK with having BAM on Friday night of the KO if that’s what people want to do.  I’m not in favor of a third-session fast pairs event in the Spring.  

We’ve tried that, it didn’t work even when people expected the fast pairs would be fast, and I don’t think a pizza will solve the problem.  

Some of us don’t like three-session days, some of us don’t much like fast pairs, and some don’t want to or can’t drive at night.  Between those three things, I suspect that a third session for fast pairs will always be a money-loser, as well as needlessly exhausting for the tournament chairs and directing staff.

After talking with Jeff tonight, I would like to propose to the board a different event schedule for Vasa (and then also for the Memorial Day KO).
Basically: put FAST PAIRS back on the docket for the thirds session at Vasa for 7:30.  AND have a pizza and salad meal ($5.00) for the HOUR we have between the second and third session. AND make sure Fast pairs are really fast pairs.  (this will be doable, esp with Tom on the board helping...)
then
Move the single session BAM to Friday night of the KO sectional in May.

Among the problems with the BAM at Vasa at the Sweetheart: 
• first no time to eat if you are playing in the earlier two session event, and 
• second, the session the next day on Saturday is early.  BAM needs to be done when we have a later starting time  the next day.

I'd like to have some email discussion amongst us all, and then a vote Monday by 3:00.  Thoughts?

Hey Ann - since the mail exchange was b/w you and Jeff, could you find out what test he thinks would be "the right way to do it"?  His comment doesn't make a ton of sense to me, since this is exactly where the BAM was previously...and it's the session most likely to draw BAMmers (vs. an afternoon or morning where you get more novice/intermediate players).  

We wouldn't be the first sectional to make a late-breaking schedule change if there's something that makes more sense here that the board agrees with, but we'd need to know very quickly.

I am worried that this event will have incredibly low turnout given its scheduling - the "fast" pairs wasn't very large last year in the same time slot - and then this will be taken as evidence that "people don't like BAM". I appreciate that the board is trying to get one back on the schedule, but I don't think this is the right way to do it.

The BAM will be at 7:30, and yes there will be two session pairs at 10:30 and 3:00.
