Subject: [SBU Board] Hi all
Patti and I are kicking around the NLM Regional/Fall Sectional plans. We have a model to work with: D20 is doing something very similar at their spring Seaside sectional (flyer attached below).
Have a couple questions/thoughts/comments:
a.. First, what are the dates we are considering for the Fall Sectional? September, right? Can someone send me the dates?
a.. Second, what events are we planning for the Fall sectional? Pairs on Friday, two session qualifier on Saturday, and 0-2500 and AX swiss on Sunday? Why I ask? I'd like to get a very rough handout available at the upcoming I/N sectional. (JC, we'll talk after things are sorted out).
b.. If we ran the NLM regional, the events we are considering will be NLM pairs on Friday, NLM pairs on Saturday and two events for NLM on Sunday: a single session pairs game and a two session NLM Swiss. (Note that the single session pairs on Sunday is extremely popular at our NLM sectionals).
c.. Regarding directors, Jeff Jacob will have experience running a NLM regional concurrent with a sectional (he's doing this in the Spring 2019 at the Seaside Regional). I've pinged Arleen to see if we can get Jeff assigned to help with our event--should make for a smooth event.
d.. Patti and I want Julie Godefroy brought in to help with this event, and so Julie has been included on this particular email.
e.. Finally, I've asked to be included on the agenda for the Leavenworth D19 meeting and will bring the board up to speed with our thinking about this event.
Any thoughts you might have about all this, please let me know!
Personally, I'm getting excited about this event--with a little effort, we will be offering a neat way to get new players excited about tournament bridge. There is lots to be done: setting up speakers, door prizes, advertising at clubs, schools, private games and sectionals...but I'm convinced this is a way to help grow our games and keep newbies engaged. Stay tuned!
