C1161 is never in question as a NLM site. They ha we no plans to make changes to that space.

I know I looked at North Kirkland a bit ago, and parking, size and cost made it not attractive.
Let's do a meeting!

All Board Members,

As you might recall, earlier this year we set the dates & sites for our 4 open and 2 NLM sectionals for 2017, see attached file.

It's time to begin thinking about 2018 tournament dates & sites. Availability of sanctionable tournament dates is limited due to numerous constraints. The earlier we apply for sanctions the more choices we will have. All board members can aid in this ongoing cycle by sharing feedback any of us gets from members on our sites (past, present or future) and being on the lookout for prospective new sites. Recently, members suggested to me three potential new sites to explore: North Kirkland Community Center, Northwest University and Saint Edwards State Park. At first glance N. Kirkland Comm Center is too small and too pricey; Northwest University appears to be a possibility (I have an inquiry in); and I also have an inquiry in on Saint Edwards State Park. In any event, we'll add these three sites to our database. Please share any ideas or suggestions of your own or that you pick up from members.

I plan to include a Tournament Sites Committee update on the agenda for our Aug 8 board meeting. By that time we will have a sense of how it went at Forest Ridge in July. This will be important in evaluating the practicality of schools for summer sectionals going forward. I've heard from Clay Laughary that during the recent spell of hot weather Mercer Island High School (a venue we've site-surveyed and considered) was quite warm. Its cafeteria/commons is not air conditioned. Its gym apparently is air conditioned, however there's an "attitude" associated with MIHS basketball and it's not at all clear whether we might be considered a suitable renter for the gym. All this leaves us with an important task in assessing Forest Ridge and either continuing with our plan to hold our 2017 summer sectional there or lining up a different site.

We also need to stay in coordination with Amy LaZerte, our contact person at North Seattle College, to verify that our requested 2016 and 2017 NLM and open sectional dates are firm. We'll need to do a thorough post mortem on NSC following our planned (first time) open sectional there in Feb 2017.

Thank you to Ann, John W, David, Patti and Larry for your work on our committee. Let's schedule a committee meeting later this year to take stock on a proposed plan for 2018 tournaments that we can bring forward to the full board.

Thanks,
Tim
Chair, Tournament Sites Committee
