Kim,
Many thanks for your outstanding work on the RR competition and the party! The party is a fun event and I'm sorry I wasn't able to be there this time to play and help out.
Although I won't be at the meeting this evening, I wholeheartedly support your recommendations concerning free plays for Jeff and Kevin for their generous contributions.
I'm looking forward to playing the RR competition this year.
Thanks,
Tim

Subject: [SBU Board] Round Robin Party Update
Hi All,
Here is the RR party update as promised.
The party went really well. We had 40 participants, 20 from bracket 1 and 20 from bracket 2, making an even 10 teams. We constructed teams by having a random draw making sure we had 2 members from each bracket on every team and also making sure that no team had people from their own RR team on it. Everyone played one round with each of their team members.
I had many people tell me that they loved this event. It is really fun for people to get to play with people they don’t normally get to play with, and specifically, I know a lot of the inexperienced players loved the opportunity to play with more experienced players.
Thank you’s
-Ann Romeo for her incredible hospitality. It really made for a fun party atmosphere. Please never retire from this job.
-Jeff Ford for volunteering and directing this game. It took a lot of planning as we had to collect RSVP’s, make “even” teams, make 5 sets of boards, and clean up the club when it was over. He also showed up an hour early to figure out how to do swiss team scoring on the bridemates which made the event run particularly smoothly and in a timely manner.
-Kevin Bolan, Aaron Mohrman and Jeff for staying after and helping me clean up. We all knew that Ann had to leave for the UW game as she made that very clear. I thought all board members were going to help clean up. I was the only board member left at the end but the 3 above stayed after while we cleaned up and did all of the dishes and got rid of the trash.
-EBC for opening up their club for us.
-John W. and Susan C for showing up just in case we needed them as fill ins. It turned out we didn’t, but it was so nice to know that they were there as some folks didn’t trickle in until actual game time.
-John W. for printing off self-addressed envelopes so the RR captains can send the entry fees to him (instead of me collecting the money and losing it…). Yay!
Final Thoughts:
1. This is a fantastic event that everybody seemed to really enjoy. Even though I am off the board next year, I hope the board will continue to host this party.
2. We had 9 teams sign up yesterday for the 2016 Round Robin. The deadline is March 1st so please keep spreading the word!
3. I would like to suggest that we give Jeff free plays at our next tournament as a thank you for all of his hard work. If we had to hire a director, it would have cost us more than $100. He went above and beyond to make this a special event for everyone and he isn’t even on the board. I don’t know if you realize how much Jeff does for the board behind the scenes but I am guessing everyone will find out soon enough now that he isn’t on the board anymore. This would be a small token of our appreciation and I think it would be a nice gesture.
4. In that same vein, I think it would be nice to offer a one session free play to Kevin and Aaron for helping me clean up the mess afterwards. It really wasn’t pretty.
*This would be a total of $80 which is still less than it would have cost us to hire a director and we would still need to have stayed and cleaned up the mess.
Again, I apologize that I have a conflict with tonight’s meeting. If you have any questions about competitions, shoot me an email and I will be happy to fill you in.
Thanks,
Kim
