Subject: could you forward this to the unit board, please?
Dear Seattle Unit Board,
I want to comment on something related to when we have the BAM events. I do enjoy BAM events, and would like to attend them in the future. However, I think the Board is accidentally losing sight of the "non-retirees" with it's current schedule at our sectionals.
A premiere bridge event, one that might be extended by several rounds more than normal if making a perfect movement is possible, should never ever be the getaway day or last day event. On the last day, whether Sunday or a holiday Monday, folks who have jobs are stressed to get out at at reasonable time. Often there are neglected chores from the weekend. Certainly the board members themselves that aren't retirees need assurance of getting out at a manageable time.
This seems like it would be a trivial matter to schedule the premiere event on Saturday (or Sunday if there's a holiday Monday), and keep the getaway day for an event with a fixed end time. Swiss teams works, but fast pairs would work as well or better (two sessions), or even regular pairs (two sessions) -- we'd know if we started at 10 or 10:30 we'd be out by 6 (or even earlier, with fast pairs).
It's a similar problem to what hurts weekend bridge clubs; there has to be a reasonable end time or we limit ourselves to people without jobs.
Could you please consider changing up the schedule, to have the premiere events when it's not so important to end at a reasonable hour, and events that are more strictly timed reserved for the getaway or final day? I don't think I can do another Monday after playing two sessions each Fri-Sun where I'm not sure if it'll be dark when I leave or not.
Thank you.
