[SBU Board] July Start Times

I'm with Kim on option 3. For a Friday I think option #2 is actually the worst of both worlds since it won't please the straight up daylight crowd, but the second session is still too early for someone who needs to work a full day and then commute to the playing site.

Thanks for getting the discussion started Jeff.
Although I am interested in seeing how the early start times affect attendance on Saturday, I am not in favor of early start times on Friday. I believe we would be indirectly telling the younger working crowd that we don’t care about them. I think a nice compromise is the 1/6:30pm suggestion. It allows the working crowd the ability to work a half day if they choose, while still getting all players home at a reasonable hour in order to be fresh for Saturday.

Subject: [SBU Board] July Start Times
At the last meeting we said that we could avoid meeting in April so long as we resolved the start times for our July tournament over email with the sentiment that we would do morning/afternoon for at least part of the tournament.
The 10:30 / 4:00 Saturday times worked well at the I/N tournament, and I propose we use the same times in July. I think this is the least controversial part of the discussion.
What to do on Friday is more interesting. The first question is how early we can get in the building for setup (and how early people are willing to arrive for setup). Susan, do you know what is the earliest we can be in the building?
The second question, assuming we don't have building constraints is when to play on Friday. I think there are three main options:
1. Play at 10:30 & 4:00, just like Saturday.
2. Play at noon and 5:30 or 6:00.
3. Play at 1:00 and 6:30 or 1:30 and 7:00.
Option 1 has the disadvantages of early setup and no evening session for working people, and the advantages of being consistent (10:30 every day) and finishing plenty early for the early Saturday start. Option 2 has the advantage of setting up a little bit later, and potentially allowing working people to play the second session, but the disadvantage of a meal at 4:00. Option 3 has the disadvantage of playing late then starting early, but the advantage of having an available session for working people. (Is this important with the tournament in Bothell? I'm not sure how many Seattle people would come over anyway.)
Please reply with your preference among the Friday options as well as anything else you want to add to the discussion.
Thanks,
Jeff
