Well, I guess I'm dumber than I thought.<br><br>
Although I'm aware that many web sites can have sub-sites (e.g.
mysite.com and sub1.mysite.com), I hadn't considered that mysite.com and
<a href="http://www.mysite.com/" eudora="autourl">www.mysite.com</a> were
not equivalent. Very often, if I watch the browser's address bar, I see
the browser substitute
<a href="http://www.mysite.com/" eudora="autourl">www.mysite.com</a>
after first testing mysite.com. I wasn't aware that they could have two
distinctly different IP addresses. I'll need to ask which one they
expect.<br><br>
I've learned something today.<br><br>
Regarding the baseline, how would I know the hops/hopcount for a site
unless, perhaps, it's my own site and I administer the routing
tables?<br><br>

Well, that's telling.<br><br>
So trace and ping don't work, but a connection does -- to
<a href="http://WWW.myloweslife.com">WWW.myloweslife.com</a>. I have not
tried the <a href="http://myloweslife.com">myloweslife.com</a> site
(which has a different IP).<br><br>
The "baseline" I mentioned is just knowing the hops/hopcount to
wherever you're going.<br><br>
