</div>No, the US economy is bad enough (but recovering) but California's problems,<br>
like Greece, largely are self-inflicted.<br>

<font color="#888888"><br></font></blockquote><div>Too true. California government has been dysfunctional for quite a while now. As a state employee, I see this in the wallet, but it's been evident in many ways for many years. <br>
<br>My own hope has been that the state would break new ground by going truly bankrupt or start what we call a "constitutional convention" to rejigger the whole setup, and hope that the inevitable new problems are not as bad as the old ones.<br>
