This email is coming to you from a Zimbra server! Zimbra running on CentOS (64-bit).
Setup was really easy and it comes with a well-tuned anti-spam engine. Works better than the Exchange servers I have to maintain (for now, anyway), even though many components are J2EE. The webmail is Web2.0, very pretty and functional too, and it does IMAP very well -- have tested it against several phones and it syncs email without the need for another connector (Note: Windows Mobile phones have problems syncing with it, though)
I'm not so sure about calendar sharing because I don't use it.

You may want to configure PPTP for remote access. Some routers such as the Linksys RV042 and RV082 can function as PPTP servers. Zimbra would be a very, very nice addition, because it also supports Outlook meeting invites. Are you using Samba and is the server configured as a PDC?

Totally missed the last paragraph. We would be using Samba for accessing shared folders locally. I am currently using postfix/courier/samba on one domain, which works fine for basic needs. Just considering possibilities for future growth.
