I don't know the answer, but I have two observations:<br><br>
1- You state "...there is no support for ACHI in windows before

and then say "My dual boot has Windows XP <b><i>SP3</i></b> and
loads onto my SATA drives without any additional
drivers..."<br><br>
Terence also mentions Windows <b><i>XP SP3<br><br>
</i></b>So, perhaps Windows XP SP3 has the appropriate support?<br><br>
2- My current PC shipped with an SATA drive and Windows Vista. I
tried to "upgrade" it by installing Windows XP. XP would not
see the drive so I couldn't install it. NOW I understand why.<br><br>
