metrics

What are folks using for metrics collection these days?  I'm referring
to stuff like rrdtool, collectd, grafana, graphite.

I used munin for many years, but grew tired of its poor, outdated
documentation, huge resource foot print, and slow bug fix rate.

Ideally, I'd like something written in either python or php, without
any mysql requirements.
