Thanks! These links look like they answer all of my questions.
I noticed that Linux Mint 17.3 allowed 1 MB unused space at the
beginning of the partitions it set up on my Atom-powered notebook. Would
I be able to run Mint's fstrim on XP on a multiboot drive?
