NVIDIA with 2 kernel configs

I have 2 kernels that are actually almost the same, only the config files are
different. When the kernel package is upgraded, the nvidia package is also
installed (by the package manager; distro is Archlinux). When this happens, I
also install "by hand" the second kernel, after menuconfig etc. Thus, the
kernels have exactly the same version, and the toolchain is the same. My
question is: is it really necessary to reinstall nvidia (which was installed
seconds ago) or can I simply copy or symlink the installed module to the
appropriate location corresponding to the custom kernel?
TIA
