[OT] monitor as TV

Sorry, this is _really_ OT. I'm out of ideas on how to get info,
Google fails miserably.

I purchased a LCD (LED) monitor Samsung BX2250. The thing has one VGA
and two HDMI inputs. The HDMI output of the (integrated) graphics card
is connected to one of the HDMI inputs, and it works OK. I was hoping
to use the other HDMI input to receive the TV signal from the cable TV
box set, which has a HDMI output (HDMI/DVI according to the box set
manual, whatever that means). The idea is to have the monitor double
as TV for viewing HD stuff, as my regular (old) TV is incapable of
such feat.

It doesn't work. Selecting the appropriate source in the monitor shows
nothing (black screen) except a logo confirming the selected source.

In case someone has some experience with this stuff: Maybe there is
some frequency problem? (TV signal not corresponding to a VESA mode?)
HDCP crap? (although I can't guess why...) Some weird crap from the
cable provider? (Yes, I did ask them. I just lost my time listening to
some illiterate critter...) Other ...?

(The monitor has 1920x1080 resolution, which is on when selecting the
signal from the PC)

Thanks

Jorge Almeida
