Via-rhine problems w/ vlans

Folks,
Anyone know of any problems involving the via-rhine based hardware?
Google is uninformative.
I have a small ATX VIA motherboard with two via-rhine based ethernet
ports. I added another ethernet card (Realtek-based). All the
ethernet cards work properly with no vlan tagging. The Realtek works
with vlan tags. But any vlans added to the via-rhine are just not
passing traffic (and I have about 60 vlans spread between the two I
need to work).
A tcpdump on the remote system shows arp who-has packets arriving and
arp replies going out the vlan. The system in question, however,
doesn't see the arp replies. Anyone seen this behavior before?
Note: there are no firewall rules. Just routing. Realtek works (has
2 vlans), just not the via-rhine tagged stuff, only the untagged
traffic flows.
TIA,
