this can be scripted like this:



mkdir resizedfiles
for filename in *.jpg; do
  convert -resize 640 $filename resizedfiles/$filename
done



where the files to be converted are in the current directory (change directory 
to that directory) and assuming you want the new width to be 640 pixels.  This 
creates a new directory off the current directory called "resizedfiles" and 
places the updated files in there so you still have the originals.
