You probably can change the internal LAN address of the modem
using the web interface. It's simply a matter of finding the
proper screen, setting the new IP and netmask, then saving the
settings. Once this is done, you will have to do whatever is
necessary to get the machine you configured it with to a good IP
address on the internal LAN.
FWIW, it's always a Good Idea to not use the default internal
private networks of commodity routers, usually 192.168.0.0/24 or
192.168.1.0.24 to something else. I ran into an ``Interesting''
issue after connecting to a site with internal 192.168.0/24 using
OpenVPN, and I had been lazy and not reset our WAP's internal
network. Everything worked fine until I dropped the connection
when my route to the internal 192.168.0.0/24 network was lost.
Another issue with OpenVPN occurs when the OpenVPN server is set
to push DNS info to the clients. This caused my /etc/resolv.conf
file to point to the private server on the OpenVPN server after
the connection was disconnected. This was on a 15in Macbook Pro
running OS X Snow Leopard and the Tunnelblick OpenVPN client, but
I suspect that similar problems can occur with other *nix OpenVPN
clients that might not restore /etc/resolv.conf after a
connection is shut down.
