I read that the upcoming release of Ubuntu due in a couple of weeks was using 
ext4 by default. And the word is that's it is utterly stable and ready for 
primetime.

I was kinda surprised by that and that's what prompted me to start this thread.

For something as critical as a fs I usually take the conservative approach and 
let everyone else stumble upon the bugs. I figured it would be at least another 
release cycle or two before any major distros would be using it by default.
