Not even a UPS can save you in all situations. The lesson I learned was 
to check the integrity of your nightly backups.

I think what has improved over the years with XFS is the recovery tools. 
I was looking for experience with that. But it is good to hear that 
you've used it for 8 years without any problems. That's certainly an 
endorsement.
