I used to think that rootkits were only for Linux/UNIX systems until I saw several on Windows systems. The Windows rootkits seem to infect the MBR and are impervious to virtually all antivirus programs I have tried (Symantec, McAfee, etc.). The strange thing is that I am seeing more and more malware and autorun viruses being written in Asia -- China being the most obvious suspects, but I have seen one particular autorun virus written in Indonesia (or Malaysia -- hard to tell because they share the same language). All the Asian stuff I have seen seems to be targeted at Windows almost exclusively.
