A few obvious places: Navy Pier. When I was young, it was derelict.
Now it is a touristy as it gets. However, the view of Chicago from it
is really great, allowing one to forget the touristy bit. Just stroll
down the pier, have a beer/wine/Chicago pizza/red hots, listen to some
free live music. Then head a bit south along Michigan Avenue to Grant
Park. It to is all shiny. Lots of activity. There is an outdoor
concert shell that is state of the art : everyone gets good sound.
Lots of interesting things to see even if there is no music at the
time. Don't miss the Bean. At the south end of the park is Buckingham
Fountain (famous long before Married With Children's opening credits).
At dusk, there is a really nice light and water show. It is quite
interesting that the water part of the show dates from when the
fountain was built 100 years ago. There is more to it than meets the
eye. Time's up. Back to the hotel.

It is RSofT and there is always something under construction.
It is like talking about large city with all constructions finished.
Not impossible, but very unlikely.
