I've use VMWare workstation in Linux and pointed it to run a windows
partition. However the hardware changes significantly enough that it
prompts for license re-activation.
If you want to run the free VMWare Server (I'm not sure if it supports
running VM's from a physical disk partition). You can use the VMWare
Converter http://www.vmware.com/products/converter/. To convert your
windows install to a very nicely portable vm.
