Try installing Wubi (http://wubi-installer.org/). It's a great way to
introduce Linux. It install Ubuntu as a Windows application. Works with
Vista. After installation, you get the option to start Vista or Ubuntu
on startup. Ubuntu runs fine and works okay with the NTFS file system.
I've not found any problems. And, if needed, you can uninstall it like
any other Windows application. I've set it up on computers for people
who have to run Windows applications most of the time, but don't want to
use Windows for Internet access and prefer the safety of Linux.
