Hyphens versus underscores

I am not aware of a technical reason to prefer one to the other. I find 
hyphens easier to type than underscores because hyphens require use of a 
Shift key on a QWERTY (Sholes) keyboard. Nonetheless, I seem to prefer 
underscores, likely as a matter of habit.
