any exports on ripping dvds out there?

I have one of those <unnamed> Windows programs that is supposed to copy all 
those discs....   however many movies made within the past year or so will not 
copy.   The program seems to "fall in a hole" while reading the disc and just 
hangs there until showing an error.

I suppose it might be a 'bad track' that a dvd player might just skip over and 
a computer will not.
