xfce4 questions

I just got a netbook (System76 Starling to support a Colorado
company). I'm running  a Debian distro (sidux of course). Most other
Debian/Ubuntu distros have too old a kernel to support my wireless
card.

1. I've got mplayer and all the codecs (so beloved by FSF advocates)
working, but when I open a movie trailer under firefox (oops, bloody
iceweasel), the picture window opens offset to the top of the screen -
overlaid by the firefox top decorations. I can switch to full screen
mode, but it would be nice to correct the problem. Any ideas?

2. Anyone know about a battery app for xfce4? I can't seem to find
one. That's one of the few advantages of kde/gnome.
