badblocks

I dunno. Open to suggestions. One thing I need to be able to do is run it on 
drives connected via USB and I can't get a reading from the man page on how 
well smartctl can manage that. smartctl seems to demand a lot of the user (me!) 
in terms of knowing the exact hardware being tested on.
