migrating from courier to dovecot imap

Subject tells my plan. I have a big Maildir directory maintained by
procmail and various e-mail clients (mainly evolution and whatever the
Mac e-mail program is called).
Anyone done this? Seems the migration procedure results in new
databases describing the messages, but the messages are untouched. But
that is not clear. The biggest thing is the INBOX. root Courier uses
and, it seems, dovecot can be told to use. But I am not married to the
INBOX. root idea. I always thought it a bit odd that all mail in a
tree called INBOX.
Perhaps a better approach would be to make a new Maildir directory
that is empty and is maintained by dovecot. Then, using a mail agent
like evolution, simply copy from the Courier account to the dovecot
account. That way I don't really change the Courier tree.
Anyone done this specific transition?

And remember:
It is RSofT and there is always something under construction.
It is like talking about large city with all constructions finished.
Not impossible, but very unlikely.
