Maybe...   Haven't looked at that in awhile.

I went through the drill long ago and I have a couple of scripts you could use 
to set up the br0  network.   One to turn it on, and one to turn it off.

But I don't use that anymore.....    I use a 'cable connected NAT' card which 
is pretty much a no brain'r.    Requires running one /etc/init.d/   script 
whenever the kernel changes  (vboxdrv setup)   to do a small compile, but I 
think VMWare was harder to setup than that.

That gives me Samba capability on my internal network as well as Internet 
connectivity going through the gateway.   That's all I need.

Don't know what would be missing from VB unless maybe it won't handle some 
instances of other OS's.   I only run XP which runs extremely well....   or 
as good as XP ever runs.
