Advice needed on hard disk purchase

I would avoid Western Digital and Maxtor.

I routinely use and recommend Seagate drives. In fact, at $dayjob 
we're using 4 of these in a RAID array:

Seagate 1TB drives (ST31000340NS)

In the interests of accuracy, netllama selected them. When it comes to
Seagate drives though, we're on the same page.
