I think .local is the default settings on MS Exchange for the domain 
name ( I guess more than 50% I am wrong on this because there is only 
one MS Exchange server under my control so I have no experience on this 
). On the Exch server I control, I did have a problem that a few remote 
mail servers refused to talk to after it sends on the .local in the 
greetings of the smtp connection. After I change it to .com, everything 
works fine.
