I got WP 8.1 running under 5.3; I have a how-to if anyone is interested.
I understand that FreeBSD 6.x and higher use Fedora 6 Linux libs, and 
that will make things a bit more complicated since that version lacks 
the libc5 support WP8/8.1 needs.
