Never cared.  I believe their terms of service cover this more than
well enough.  I know this was discussed back then.

I trust Google more than the US government and their snooping
machines.  Regardless, if you consider something private, personal, or
in any way confidential, you should encrypt that traffic.  If you
trust plain text anything over circuits you don't own (and possibly
some that you do), I am surprised at your naivety.
