eDesktop 2.4 used the 2.2 Linux kernel, which meant I was forced to compress
my database backups when the file size exceeded 2GB. I think the 3.*
versions used the 2.4 kernel; but I could be mistaken.

One of the things I liked about OpenLinux 2.3 (my first successful Linux
installation) and 2.4 (which came with a t-shirt) was COAS, a system
configuration tool that worked both in X Windows and a virtual terminal
(used ncurses?). COAS disappeared with the 3.* series. With eDesktop 2.4,
the whole seemed greater than the sum of its parts. I never got that
feeling with version 3.*.
