Glad to hear your dry spell is ending. In my region 30 out of 31 days
in August exceeded 90 F / 34 C, but the heat index which factors
humidity made the mean daily average in excess of 100 F/ 39 C. Even
after sundown when the temperature drops the humidity still makes it
miserable; I have to keep windows closed and run air conditioning or
I'll get mold on the walls. I like to ventilate the house with outside
air as often as I can. Constant air conditioning can cause "sick
house", and since my three dogs like to plop down on the floor vents to
cool their forelegs in the blast of cold air, the house takes on an
aroma that is rather "distinct."

Re backups: I image my home directory on a DVD every month; if I've got
a file that I want to archive before my monthly back up I copy it to a
USB memory stick and then copy it to another system. (I don't have a
home network; I don't need to talk to myself, yet. )
