LDAP admin tools

Anyone out there maintaining an LDAP server?  I'm looking for some
kind of admin tool which will allow me to add/remove/modify users.
While I've found a few that can do those things in general, none
appear to be capable of both:
* creating a $HOME for newly created users
* automatically determining the UID & GID for new users

I did find one (cpu.sf.net) which claims to be able to do these
things, but it won't build with gcc-4.x, and appears to be
unmaintained (the last release was 3 years ago).
