Outdated? Perhaps.  Tell you what, when you have 20+ years working
with UNIX, some of your views may be a bit outdated too, just like
some will say you are outdated at that point.  As for narrow, that
sounds like an opinion and rates right up (down?) there with your
political tirades.

Hard links still remain relevant (IMHO).  I prefer them to symlinks.
Then of course there's always the symlink absolute vs. relative
debate (and I never cared much for my relatives anyway).
