system gets crazy !

I cannot reboot my remote FC7. init 6 returns me to the prompt and never
reboot the system. "reboot" shows /sbin/reboot: Input/output error.

The first problem was I was trying to run the remore firefox thru X
forwarding and then vncviewer. 

Under vncviewer, running firefox says that the current firefox is not
responding and that either firefox has to be killed or the system has to
be restarted. ps -ef shows no ef so I used init 6 to restart it.

Under X forwarding, running firefox says "X11 connection rejected
because of wrong authentication."

What can I do now ?
