Which Way ?

Ok, my funeral home chain is looking to do some upgrading.
3 years ago we did some P4's with Slackware which most are running
Slack 10, OpenOffice 2.0 and Firefox etc.

Due to some POLITICAL things now being out of the the way,
we are back into the 3 year cycle in/out phase again.

Am looking at some more "friendly" type LINUX desktops (KDE based).
Have been playing around with Kubuntu and cant' find $hit in it (WTF?
where the heck is inittab, where are the configuration files, etc).
Have considered OpenSuse.

Any suggestions ?
