Nothing. but most of us also absorbed the point that he is running a
Linux guest and using Oracle.

More to the point, I've observed this type of behavior from time to
time with Vmware. In our case, we're running a Linux system with
Vmplayer to serve up Windows. From time to time, the whole machine
goes out to lunch for a while.
