I should have thought of this : why don't I just copy the my Vmware 
Linux image from my notebook to this PC ? After all, I want to install 
the same thing on two systems.

I just did it and it works great.

Of course, this does not solve the problem that why it hung when I 
imported the data, but I am happy with the current workaround :)
