Thunderbird

I have been using Evolution with imap server for about two years. 
Recently when the mailbox grows ( not sure if it is the culprit or not ) 
sometimes, about once or twice a day, Evolution shows me the error 
"cannot ping the mail server" and  then I either have to close the box 
and manually click send/receive to make it work again, or I have to use 
pkill to close it.

Two days ago I started using Thunderbird as an alternative, and so far I 
am so happy with it. I have not seen any email connection problem.

Not sure if anybody experiences that same ping problem with Evolution or 
just me.  Maybe my Evolution settings is not correct.
