OK. I am able to install Suse to the hard drive on the new motherboard
but it was not that simple.
First of all, I tried again the installation process with Suse 10.2. I
got the same error that /dev/sda1 ( or /dev/sda2 , depending on how I
created the partition table ) apparent is in use then it stopped with a
big stop sign.

Per Lonnie 's question regarding /dev/sda /dev/sdb, the sata drive
is /dev/sda and the cd drive ( usb external dvd ) is /dev/sr0.

Then I tried with Ubuntu 7.0.4. It installed just fine with the same
partition table I created with Suse 10.2 ( it did require to
re-format ).

Then I tried again with Suse 10.2, this time it formatted the partitions
just fine and the installation just went to the end without any problem.

So the problem is solved, but I am not sure what was really happening.
