Ok, I downloaded  Lightzone 3 Full  for trial and it seems to run fine.

I used 'My Network' to have  XP look at my files which are on a linux disk 
using  Samba.    Performance seemed to be ok as it scanned all of my NEF 
files and made thumbnails.

Looks ok.  If I find any problems, I'll let you know.
